Student Research Assistant Awards for Studies in Violence Against Women and Children

Eligibility for a Scotiabank Student Research Assistant Award
To be eligible for a Scotiabank student award an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full time at the University of Western Ontario in any undergraduate program
  • Have a demonstrated interest in the area of anti-violence advocacy and / or research on violence against women and children

The following are assets to any application for a Scotiabank Student Research Assistant Award:

  • an involvement in and connection to a community agency (or agencies) whose work addresses issues relating to violence against women and children
  • an involvement in Centre activities (including Centre committees and research projects)
Application Process

Applications are obtained from the Registrar's Office, Room 180, Stevenson Lawson Building and must be sent to the Centre with the approval of Student Financial Services.

In addition to forms required by the Registrar’s office, each applicant will be asked to submit a letter outlining their interest in and background with the issue of violence against women and children as well as their research interests relevant to the Scotiabank Student Research Assistant Award. A C.V. must be attached to each submission, along with a transcript indicating your university courses and grades to date.

Applications are reviewed by the Centre’s Community Director and must be approved by the Centre’s Advisory Board.

Expectations for Recipients of the Scotiabank Student Research Assistant Award

Students who win a Scotiabank Student Research Assistant Award are expected to participate in an action-research project throughout the academic year organized by the Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children.
